It’s too dull to say much about, though James Nicoll has picked out the fifteen titles by women. This would be my cue to list the POC who got on the list except, as noted yonder, there aren’t any.
Wait…what…wait….no Delaney? Butler? Hopkinson? Due? I’m confused. Kindred? Is time travel not science fiction anymore? These are basic texts. These are duh texts. These are IMPORTANT texts with more depth and magic than twenty of George R. R. Martin’s wanna-be-deep….and he’s high on the list…and Octavia Estelle Butler is….Hell Beloved has enough magic to make the list as it stands and won a friggin PULITZER PRIZE….Are you serious?…The hell?….Gawdammit…..
The only authors of colour who made it to the final list (which people then voted on) were Delany, Butler, N. K. Jemisin and Haruki Murakami. So no, no Hopkinson or Due. Don’t you know a woman can only crack the top 20 if she’s dead and white?
